Fence types and rough prices
Indicative prices for the Worthing area for a fence about 1.8m high, including posts and fitting. Your quote depends on removing the old fence, access, slopes and post type.
Closeboard
Overlapping vertical boards fixed on site. The strongest timber fence for exposed gardens.
Fence panels
Ready made lap, featheredge or picket top panels between posts. Quick and lower cost.
Slatted
Contemporary horizontal boards with small gaps. Popular for modern gardens and screening.
Composite
Wood and plastic boards in aluminium posts. No painting, no rot, highest upfront cost.
Picket
Low fences for front gardens, usually under 1m to stay within the height rules.
Garden gates
Side gates, garden gates and driveway gates in timber or metal, hung on solid posts.
Repairs
Blown down panels, snapped or leaning posts and storm damage, repaired or replaced.
Fence down after a storm?
Worthing takes the full force of Channel storms. Most blown fences can be repaired with a few new posts and panels, and switching to concrete posts stops it happening again. Take photos for your insurer before anything is cleared.
Before you replace a fence
Two things catch people out. A fence over 2m high, or over 1m next to a road or the pavement beside it, normally needs planning permission, and trellis on top counts towards the height. And it pays to know who owns the boundary before you start, especially if a neighbour shares it.

Common questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Requesting a quote costs you nothing and there is no obligation to go ahead.
Who will contact me?
An independent local fencing contractor covering your postcode. They will call or email to arrange a free visit.
Can I get a price without a visit?
Our cost guide gives a rough range online, but a firm price needs a visit to measure, check the ground, access and what needs removing.
How high can my fence be?
Normally up to 2m in a back garden without planning permission, and 1m next to a road or the pavement beside it. See our fence rules guide.
