Garden gates in Worthing
Side gates, garden gates and driveway gates in timber or metal, hung on solid posts.
What is it?
Most gate problems come from the posts rather than the gate itself. A good fencer will set strong posts, hang the gate on heavy duty hinges and fit a lock that suits how you use it.
Why people choose it
- Side gates add security to the back of the house
- Can be matched to a new fence
- Timber, metal and composite options
- Lockable latches and bolts available
Things to watch
- Sagging gates usually mean weak posts or light hinges
- Wide driveway gates need much bigger posts
- Gates next to a road over 1m high may need planning permission
- Check the gate opens without hitting paths or steps
Rough cost
| Indicative price | £250 to £700 per gate, fitted |
|---|---|
| Time on site | Often half a day. Double driveway gates usually £450 to £1,200 |
Removing an old fence, slopes, tricky access and concrete posts all affect the price. Use the cost guide for a rough figure, then get a firm price from a visit.
Questions
Why does my gate keep sagging?
Usually the post is moving or the hinges are too light for the gate. Replacing the post and using heavier hinges often fixes it without a new gate.
Can a gate be fitted to my existing fence?
Often, yes. The fencer will usually set a new, stronger post either side so the gate hangs properly.
Do I need permission for a driveway gate?
If it is next to a road and over 1m high, normally yes. Gates should also open inwards rather than across the pavement.
